Linux Systems Engineer

                          

The Linux Systems Engineering role is responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining servers and services with a primary focus on Linux systems and automation.  Candidates need to be able to work independently, communicate professionally and follow business processes and procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Design, implement and maintain systems hosted primarily on RHEL, RHEV and Cisco UCS
• Responsible for creating and maintaining custom scripts and leveraging automation tools
• Implement new software products from proposal to production.  This includes research, working with vendors to set up evaluations, quoting for purchase, architecting, documenting, production rollout and monitoring.
• Research and install product and operating system updates and fixes to meet security requirements
• Create and maintain monitoring as well as respond to alerts for systems issues
• Participate in an on-call rotation and function as an off hours point of contact in case of unplanned events
• Troubleshoot application, network, and server issues across multiple platforms and OSes
• Create documentation of builds, layouts and troubleshooting information for systems
• Mount rackable equipment and run lengths of cable as needed
• Communicate diplomatically and professionally with co-workers and management, giving and receiving instruction

The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:

• Minimum of 8 years related job experience
• Minimum of 6 years Linux and VMware or RedHat Enterprise Virtualization experience
• Experience writing and troubleshooting complex shell scripts in bash or similar is required
• Experience with web-based technology concepts and PCI security
• Experience creating technical documentation

Relevant technical knowledge:

• Cisco UCS, VMware and Red Hat Virtualization
• Automation tools such as Jenkins, Ansible and Puppet
• Strong understanding of general web-based technology
• F5 BIG-IP LTM load balancing including developing custom iRules
• F5 ASM Web Application Firewall and Tripwire Enterprise security tools
• OpenShift, Docker containers, Kubernetes, Nexus
• Splunk maintenance with clustering and advanced SPL query language
• JVM troubleshooting, preferably with some Java development experience
• Monitoring tools such as Dynatrace AppMon, SiteScope, Cacti and Zenoss
• General DevOps knowledge and experience
• Apache, JBoss, WildFly, WildFly Swarm, Tomcat
• LucidWorks Fusion and Zookeeper
• Tcpdump, Wireshark and similar tools
• Jira Service Desk workflow development with ScriptRunner
• RedHat Satellite for RHEL server provisioning, patching and config management
• Microsoft SQL, MySQL and MongoDB
• ActiveMQ and RabbitMQ
• Bind DNS, Active Directory and LDAP
• WordPress, Drupal and Bind
• Version control systems knowledge including Git
