An Evening with Dwight Yoakam & The Bakersfield Beat

It’s fair to say that the description of this event on Vegas.com vastly differed from what the artist delivered. This wasn’t a greatest hits show. This was my first Dwight Yoakam concert and I was looking forward to hearing a lot of music from his impressive catalogue. What was delivered, however, was musical history related to Bakersfield, and the Rock Country genre. Yoakam spoke historical narratives between songs. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the show for the single reason that it was Dwight Yoakam, but it was clear others in the audience did not. About 1 1/2 hours into the show a man yelled “Play music!” during one of Yoakam’s historical accounts, then some people started leaving. The show description listed this as a 1 1/2 hour show, but I had heard the previous nights show was 3 1/2 hours. As for myself, I arrived an hour before the show to get my tickets, then waited for the venue to open, then for the show to start. By 11pm I had been there 5 hours. By 11pm the music history had reached the 1970s and only a couple of Yoakam’s songs had been played amongst a number of excellent covers of historical selections. Sadly, I also left before the end of the show, and on the way out heard others complaints. I’m glad I was able to see Dwight in concert. The music was amazing, but the historical narrative could be too long for some. I appreciate his passion and extensive knowledge of the music genre. He definitely is a living legend. Unfortunately I was expecting a different show. I left feeling like I gambled but lost...Viva Las Vegas...

Excellent, high energy. For a performer to play over three hours without any break is almost unheard of, a true entertainer!

This concert was the best I’ve ever been to. It blended Dwight’s amazing music with that of so many other great artists from the Great Depression on. I learned an immense amount of history that I never expected to hear. Dwight is an amazing story teller as well as an incredible artist. He’s endurance is remarkable - 3 hours with no breaks, not even a hydration break. I have always appreciated his music but now admire him even more. Would have gone back for a second night if I’d been able to. Still amazed!!!

So fglad I checked Vegas.com and was able to get these tickets. good seats and I paid $60 less for two than I would have paid for seats on ticketmaster that were further away than these. Will check Vegas.com next time I go to a show in Vegas.
