It's hard to get Ricky Martin out of your mind: His infectious smile, killer dance moves and powerful charisma easily make him one of the most likable performers in history.
Puerto-Rican born Enrique Martin Morales, better known as Ricky Martin, began singing at the age of six. His grandfather was a poet, which also inspired Martin to write songs at a young age. After appearing in Puerto Rican TV commercials, the 13-year-old star joined boy band Menudo in the mid-'80s. Four years and 11 albums later, Martin left the group and went solo.
After a decade's worth of success in the Latin music scene with "Ricky Martin," "Me Amarás," "A Medio Vivir" and "Vuelve," Martin was still a stranger to the U.S. mainstream music scene. However, 1999's "Livin' La Vida Loca" from his "Ricky Martin" American album put him on the map. The single reached No. 1 in numerous countries, including the U.S. "Livin' La Vida Loca" is one of the most successful singles to date, selling more than 8 million copies. After “La Vida Loca,” he released “She’s All I Ever Had,” another hit from this album. Martin paved the way for the Latin pop explosion in the late '90s, which made it easier for other Latin musicians to cross over.
His following English-language album, 2000's "Sound Loaded" included the hits "She Bangs" and "Nobody Wants To Be Lonely" featuring Christina Aguilera. After releasing "Almas del Silencio," "Life" and "Música + Alma +Sexo" (with songs in both Spanish and English), the mega-star took a hiatus from recording. He released his latest album, "A Quien Quiera Escuchar" in 2015.
Aside from his colossal music success, Martin also dabbled in TV and film. Notable appearances include "General Hospital" and "Glee," as well as judging on "Dancing with the Stars," "La Voz…México" and "The Voice Australia."
Martin has multiple platinum records, six No. 1 Billboard albums 11 No. 1 hit songs and numerous Grammy, Billboard Music and MTV awards. He’s sold more than 80 million albums worldwide.
