Frequently Asked Questions for Shark Reef Aquarium

Expect a self-guided indoor aquarium experience with a strong immersive feel, from the ancient-temple setting to the shipwreck-style shark tunnel. You’ll see more than 2,000 animals, including several species of sharks, sea turtles, crocodiles, tropical fish, piranhas and a Komodo dragon. One of the highlights is the tunnel that gives you a diver’s-eye view of large sharks swimming overhead. Naturalists are also on hand to answer questions as you explore.
Shark Reef Aquarium is at Mandalay Bay on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip, near the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Hacienda Avenue. It’s an easy stop if you’re staying on the Strip or visiting Mandalay Bay for dining, nightlife or other attractions.
Shark Reef Aquarium is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Because entry is timed, it’s smart to choose a slot that gives you enough time to enjoy the exhibits without rushing.
Most visitors should plan on about an hour or a little longer, especially if you like to linger at the shark tunnel and animal exhibits. If you’re visiting with kids or want extra time for photos, gift shop browsing or talking with the naturalists, give yourself a bit more time.
Yes—Shark Reef Aquarium is family-friendly and works well for kids, adults and mixed-age groups. Children 4 and under are free and do not need a ticket, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Younger kids usually love the big animal displays and tunnel experience.
Plan to arrive about 15 to 20 minutes before your timed entry. Shark Reef uses timed admission to manage capacity, and your selected date and time are your entry window. Late or missed arrivals aren’t accommodated, so it’s worth giving yourself a little cushion.
The easiest parking option is at Mandalay Bay. Once you’re parked at the resort, follow signs into the property and head toward Shark Reef Aquarium near the south end of the complex. If you want the shortest walk, valet can also be convenient when available at the resort.
You’ll generally want to eat before or after your visit rather than during it. The aquarium itself is focused on the exhibits, gift shop and timed entry flow, while Mandalay Bay offers plenty of nearby dining and drink options inside the resort.
Yes. Shark Reef includes interactive elements beyond standard viewing tanks. The touch pool has featured hands-on encounters with animals like stingrays, sharks and horseshoe crabs, though it is currently view-only. There’s also a VR experience that lets guests explore ocean encounters in a motion-platform theater setting.
Definitely. Sharks are the headline attraction, but you’ll also see exotic freshwater and saltwater fish, green sea turtles, crocodiles, piranhas, jellyfish, rays and an eight-foot Komodo dragon. It feels more like a full marine-and-reptile exhibit than a single-species attraction.
