VEGAS.com Wins An Odyssey
Travel Industry Association Honors World's Most Visited Site With Prestigious Award
LAS VEGAS -- Aug. 16, 2004 -- The Travel Industry Association (TIA) announced today that VEGAS.com, the most visited city web site worldwide, is the winner of the 2004 Odyssey Award in the prestigious category of Travel Marketing Domestic.
TIA is the national, non-profit organization representing all components of the $552 billion travel industry. TIA's mission is to represent the whole of the U.S. travel industry to promote and facilitate increased travel to and within the United States.
The Odyssey Awards, the premier recognition program for the $552 billion travel and tourism industry, recognize outstanding achievements of TIA member organizations that have excelled in the past year, honoring groups that have demonstrated originality, creativity and effectiveness combined with notable, measurable results. Past award members in the Travel Marketing Domestic category include Royal Caribbean International, VISIT FLORIDA, and Disney Attractions.
Odyssey Award recipients will be formally honored at TIA's Annual Awards Banquet, which takes place Thursday, October 28, 2004, during the TIA Marketing Outlook Forum in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona.
"We're honored to be recognized for our creative approach to marketing and are proud that our methods have resulted in such strong growth," VEGAS.com President Howard Lefkowitz said, referring to the company's 475% revenue increase in the past year. In May, VEGAS.com was named "Best Internet Shopping Service" in its category at the ninth annual EPpy Awards, joining other winners such as the online editions of The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, USA Today, the Washington Post and CNN.
Also in 2004, VEGAS.com has captured or been nominated for other prestigious honors including the Codie Awards from the Software & Information Industry Association for Best Online Consumer Service and several awards from the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association. Nortel Networks cited VEGAS.com for the site's leadership and innovation in IP Telephony in regard to its call center operation.
