Eldorado Canyon Horseback Morning Ride 4 5 1 1
Great ride in the desert, but it is HOT in JULY It was a great way to spend the day! We were picked up at the exact time we were told we would be, and our guide was funny and informative. This definantly helped prevent boredom on the hour long ride to Eldorado Canyon and back. When we arrived we spent around thirty minutes looking over the small western town and exploring the museum which featured very cool and real artifacts found on the property, pieces of movie sets filmed on the property and some awesome alien remains, which are said to have been transferred from the one and only Area 51 itself (lol). Our guide for horseback riding was extremely knowlegable and sweet. He was very attuned to all of our skill levels and paired us with horses in a way so that everyone was comfortable. The trail we rode on had a few steeper inclines and declines, yet the horses were very used to it, and the riding was easy and perfect for checking out the amazing view of the canyon and surrounding mountains. It was extremely hot, and though I wore sunglasses my eyes still burned from the glare; I highly suggest wearing a hat and sunscreen if you take this trip. The only disappointment about the adventure was that lunch was a Subway sandwich instead of the advertised barbeque lunch. Given that, the location of our lunch was aesthetically pleasing, and they offered us as much water as we could drink. Following the hot trail ride and lunch, the venture into the mine was a welcome treat as it was 64 degrees F in the mine shaft copmpared to the 109 degrees in the sun. I loved learning the history of the mining community and the small band of settlers who initially lived there. The town is steeped so deeply in the history of the wild west that old Hollywood films don't even come close to replicating the true adventure and lawlessness of the area. In my week long stay in Vegas, this adventure provided a well needed break from the strip, and was a highlight to my time in Sin City. July 10, 2012
