Kathy Griffin is riding the high tide of a unique method of self-promotion.

As the star and executive producer of the Bravo reality show "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List," she became a household name by spotlighting the humor and humiliation of being a minor celebrity in hierarchy-and-image-obsessed Hollywood. Griffin won two Emmy Awards for the show. It debuted in 2005 and ran for six seasons.

In reality, however, Griffin is cutting a pretty high profile these days.The flame-haired, spitfire comedic actress gained widespread exposure on the mid-1990s sitcom "Suddenly Susan." She has had a number of specials on HBO since. In addition, she's made public waves with her sardonic, celebrity-skewing humor on and off the red carpet. She was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album in 2009, 2010 and 2011. In March 2011, she made her Broadway debut in "Kathy Griffin Wants a Tony." That same year she became the first comedian to have four TV specials in one year.

Griffin is a firecracker of a comedian. She's little but loud. And she might burn fingers -- or sensitive ears as it were. But, if you are looking for sarcasm, political criticism, and some good old-fashioned pillorying of the pompous, she's downright hilarious.
