"KÀ" by Cirque du Soleil is a saga that follows the adventures of a brother and sister twin duo that becomes separated during a siege of their Far Eastern palace by evil warriors.
Except for an opening comment by an announcer setting up the story, there is no dialogue in the 90-minute production, rather the story is told through expressive and extensive choreography enacted by the production's 80-member cast.
No expense was spared when $165 million was insightfully poured into creating the spectacular theater and tremendous show. And while the entire 1,950-seat theater is encompassed in aspects of the brilliantly detailed and highly technological set, it is the performers who truly bring the multi-faceted performance space to life. Don't believe us? Sit in the first several rows and be prepared for performers to fly over your seats! Or, if you sit farther back, you will feel the rhythm of the overhead drums as they are played during some of the show's acts.
Rather than a conventional stage, "KÀ" is performed on two massive, mobile platforms in addition to five other smaller lifts and platforms all of which appear to be floating through a bottomless space. Through the use of digital projections, the different scenes transform the multi-way platforms into a mountain, a beach, a palace or a battleground as well as host yet another large prop -- the wheel of death. There are many memorable technological moments in the production: an underwater scene, a glider flight over the audience and spectacular fireworks, among many other exciting acts.
And while the floating stages provide a magnificent space, the spectacle becomes even more brilliant when adorned with the acrobatic expertise of the show's cast. And while every Cirque show is defined by the incredible feats achieved by the production's myriad of performers, the cast of "KÀ" performs some of the most spectacular stunts of all the Cirque productions.
But while the show enthralls the audience with daring stunts, magical musical and lighting collaborations, and technological marvels, some of its greatest moments are the quiet ones, such as when the audience observes the shadow puppets created by human hands and campfire light or the passionate romance between the imperial prince and the daughter of one his captors.
By embracing all aspects of the production's vivid storyline through the use of a dedicated cast as well as with dramatic and extremely advanced technology, not only does "KÀ" find a way to resonate in some way with each member of the audience, but the show also achieves the epitome a masterful production.
