Galleria at Sunset Review

The Galleria at Sunset is bright and spacious, with plenty of room to walk. And with the addition of the 85,000-square-foot Dick's Sporting Goods as its fifth department store Henderson has its first shopping mecca.

And Dick's Sporting Goods is a great addition. This is much more than just a sporting goods store. Here you'll find every sports-related item you can think of: gear for camping, fishing, cycling, snow sports, weight lifting, sport-medicine items (bandages and the like) -- the list goes on and on. And with items such as sunglasses, watches, clothing and water-purification products, it's a great place to shop for all members of the family.

In addition to the great shopping experience, Dick's offers a free rock-climbing wall to its visitors. Children 18 and under must have their parents sign a release form, and shoes must be worn at all times. Only Bison balls or other chalk balls may be used. On Monday and Tuesday, the wall is open to group reservations only; general hours are as follows:

Wednesday - Friday, 5 to 8:30 p.m.
Saturday, noon to 8:30 p.m.
Sunday, noon to 5:30 p.m.

Guests will receive a ticket at the counter; this, however, does not guarantee climbing availability. The wall closes a half-hour before the store.

Before you leave, be sure you sign up for Dick's preferred customer program -- you'll receive priority e-mails for clearance events and many other incentives.

A trip to the Galleria wouldn't be complete without a trip to Macy's, and no one would blame you if you spent your entire trip there. You could spend hours looking through the reduced prices on jewelry and accessories. (Claw through the handbags; there are some steals to be had, at 40 percent off.) There's a reason everyone in the mall seems to be carrying a Macy's bag -- sales are always running, and the prices are too good to pass up.

For fashion-conscious females, the Galleria is a good bet. Shops that offer women's fashions include Ann Taylor, bebe, Hot Topic, New York & Company and Windsor Fashions, so you're bound to find something that fits your style. Shoe selection, on the other hand, may prove more difficult. The only places to find Skechers, for example, are Dillard's and Famous Footwear, and both have meager pickings. Do stop into the Nava Hopi Gallery and browse through the Indian art, silver jewelry and hand-carved figurines. The Kitchen Sink (which seems to have everything but) is the perfect spot for ceramics and collectibles.
