RA Sushi Bar Restaurant Review:
Seductive splashes of red, soft candlelit tables, and loud thumping house music. RA Sushi, overlooking the Strip at the Fashion Show Mall, is not your average restaurant in a mall.
RA Sushi is as hip and trendy as you can get: great nightlife, amazing sushi, an extensive sake list and refreshing cocktails.
What's the unique factor? For being a restaurant that is centrally located on the Strip (great views of Wynn and Venetian from the patio), vibrantly and artistically decorated, and a consistently crowded hot spot, RA Sushi is remarkably affordable.
In fact, the better part of the menu at RA Sushi is under $15 and don't let that be a deterrent. RA Sushi serves only the freshest fish and seafood, in a plush upscale atmosphere.
Start off with a cocktail like a fragrant cucumber martini or some house RA sake. Enjoy the variety of music with a live DJ Thursday -- Sunday.
Make your way into the sensational sushi, like the signature must-have Viva Las Vegas roll. Filled with kani kama and cream cheese, the Viva Las Vegas roll is fried tempura style and topped with crab and a sliced lotus root. The lotus root is sweet and light and perfectly complements the spicy tuna and tempura batter.
A complete sushi menu is available with options like traditional California rolls, tuna rolls and eel rolls. The sushi menu features nigiri sushi, specialty rolls, maki sushi, sashimi and hand roll options.
There are plenty of starter options. For example, try the pineapple cheese won tons, blue claw crab cakes or sugarcane shrimp -- grilled shrimp served on a sugarcane skewer, topped with Asian barbecue sauce.
The lobster spring rolls contain garlic mango sauce, cream cheese and mild peppers wrapped in won ton paper and fried golden brown. This roll has chunks of shrimp and lobster and is deliciously crispy and cut on the bias for easy eating.
Crispy, coconut covered shrimp are fried to a golden brown and served with a sweet roasted pineapple dipping sauce. The shrimp are served on a skewer for easy dipping.
RA Sushi also has a full entrée menu that includes yakisoba noodles, a selection of salads and land and sea fare. Try black pepper filet medallions over wasabi mashed potatoes and shitake mushrooms, finished with grilled asparagus and black pepper butter.
Apple teriyaki salmon with a Fuji apple glaze is heavenly. It's a perfect complement of light, flaky fish grilled to perfection and a sweet and savory, inventive Fuji apple glaze. The entrée is served with wasabi mashed potatoes.
Dessert options include cinnamon flavored ice cream dipped in tempura batter and fried to a golden brown.
Enjoy cocktails indoors or on the patio for RA Sushi's happy hour from 4 -- 7 p.m., Monday -- Friday.
There are many nice features to RA Sushi inside the Fashion Show Mall -- the loud music, the cool design, the trendy crowd, the really good food -- but the most comforting aspect of RA Sushi comes from knowing poor college kids and investment bankers can both come to the restaurant, mingle together and both get great meals, great cocktails and not break the bank.
Hey, I guess it really is better in the RA.
