Caņonita is conveniently located in the Grand Canal Shoppes, on the waterfront. A small restaurant, the menu features Executive Chef Donna Willey?s Mexico City cooking.
Her signatures include a Ceviche trio with Ahi, Veracruzano and shrimp and crab; Patzcuro duck relleno of orange duck confit, savory manchamantel sauce and Mexican crema, and roasted Santa Rosa Pork Barbacoa.
There are a few highlights in Taqueria Caņonita, like the poblano chile stuffed with cheeses, almonds, dried fruits and rice. Salads with a Latin flair include the Manchego cheese spinach salad and the Mexican chopped salad. For main courses, try everything from the filet mignon with Pasilla Oaxaca sauce to the chicken with mole sauce and jicama salad.
For dessert, try the tres leches. It's fairly close to authentic, and made in-house.
The restaurant features a vibrant color palette marked by bright orange umbrellas and patina turquoise walls. The lounge offers flat screen TVs, high top communal seating and a bar with shaved ice, botanicals, beer on tap and 60 tequilas.
