Onda Review:

If you weren't specifically looking for it, you could almost miss the Italian eatery at the Mirage. But Onda is a culinary gem -- a true delight to dine at.

A Rococo-themed bar with white Italian marble, exposed brick and yellow Murano glass chandeliers makes the bar area airy, bright and comfortable. Past the bar is the main dining room -- a deceivingly large area with natural wood elements and modern designs.

The staff makes sure you have a good dining experience. A friendly hostess greets you at the door. Your server takes the time to explain the dishes. The bartender jokes with you while you're enjoying your cocktail.

While décor and friendly staff are always helpful, the food is what sets Onda apart. Delicious Italian favorites come from the kitchen. A few highlights include a creamy gnocchi, tender osso bucco and a mouth-watering sea bass.

One feature you should definitely try is Onda's regional prix fixe menu, Discover Italy. The menu focuses on a different region of Italy each month and provides food and wine pairings inspired by that region.

When I was there, a menu from Calabria was being offered -- creamy polenta with broccoli rabe, grilled swordfish and pork loin with fingerling potatoes and caramelized fennel.

The three-course menu features an appetizer, entrée and dessert for $55. A highlight of the Discover Italy menu is that you can order an unlimited wine pairing for only $14 -- one of the best values in town.
