It's a simple enough concept: Take a fully-stocked bar, add pool tables, a gaming lounge, bowling lanes and performances throughout the night, and you've got yourself a recipe for success.
Oh, and one more thing -- the place is almost fully staffed by drag queens.
Taking up a space on the second floor of Neonopolis that had been dormant for years, Drink & Drag combines a timeless pastime (drinking) with something (drag queens) that's quickly becoming sensational thanks to TV shows like "Drag Race."
The 22,000-square-foot venue has a central bar located right in front of the entrance. To the right of the entrance, you can rent your bowling shoes, or walk past the bar and hit the dance floor, which is flanked by the DJ booth and a small performance stage.
For the most part, the drag queens seem to run the show and put one on, too. Between taking drink orders and putting performances throughout the night (in fabulous costumes made in-house), this isn't just a bar that does the drag thing in name only. It embraces it.
To the left of the bar, you'll find 12 bowling lanes drenched with neon lighting and disco balls, in addition to VIP lanes for parties and special events. Off to the side, there is an area with pool tables and a video game lounge with PlayStation 3 consoles, ultra-sharp HDTVs and force-feedback chairs to immerse you in the game.
A campy and retro aesthetic throughout ties together what would otherwise seem like an idea that's too crazy to work -- in fact, this bar might just be too crazy to not work.
