Nine Fine Irishmen Review

Many American bars try to be Irish by serving green beer during St. Patrick's Day or participating in the Great Guinness Toast or even throwing some Irish music on the jukebox.

But really, very few American bars can be Irish.

Well in the case of Nine Fine Irishmen, this bar is straight from Ireland -- literally. The bar, located near ROK Vegas in New York-New York, was completely assembled in Ireland before being disassembled, shipped to Vegas and then reassembled.

What makes the story of Nine Fine Irishmen better is that it is named after nine Irishmen who were part of an uprising against England during the 19th century. All the men were born in Ireland and after being exiled to Australia, many moved to the United States. It is in that vein that Nine Fine Irishmen tries to stay as authentic as possible.

The bar features a selection of nine draft beers including Guinness, Harp, Boddington's and Newcastle. It also serves a large selection of Irish whiskey from the two most popular distilleries in Ireland: Jameson and Bushmills.

Nine Fine Irishmen also has the Draft Master table, which features two taps -- one must be Guinness -- and allows patrons to freely refill their drinks at will. But of course you still have to pay for the drinks and, with the help of a computerized instrument on the table, your tab will be tracked and tallied on each pour.

Additionally, the bar has live music nightly with traditional Irish folk music from Sin É Rí-Ra and new-age Irish rock music from Celtic Rockers. Other events include, of course, St. Patrick's Day and a 9/11 memorial complete with bagpipers and droves of firefighters and police officers.

All around the inside of the bar you'll notice the fine wood craftsmanship and the busts of the nine Irishmen the bar is named after. And when you walk across the worn-looking planks at Nine Fine Irishmen, you'll know that the bar was built by pure Irish muscle. So, for their sake, don't bother asking for a green beer.
