The glamour, secrecy and Jazz Age cool of the Prohibition Era are part of the atmosphere at Mandalay Bay's 1923 Bourbon & Burlesque by Holly Madison, a speakeasy-style bar tucked away just off the escalator on the ground floor at the entrance to The Shoppes at Mandalay Place.
This intimate joint has 15 VIP tables and can accommodate up to 325 people. It also houses a 25-person cigar room with a humidor that boasts premium hand-rolled stogies.
Near the entrance to1923 Bourbon & Burlesque is a walk-up bar surrounded by brickwork and barrels of whiskey. Another highlight of the décor is a classic automobile from the Roaring Twenties. A Gatsby-esque vibe is further evoked by dark wood accents, plush banquettes and dim lighting provided by elegant chandeliers.
One of the signature drinks from the bar's Prohibition Era-inspired mixology program is the 1923 Barrel-Aged Old Fashioned made with Bulleit Bourbon, Amaro Nonino and Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao. On the cocktail menu, you'll also discover hand-crafted libations from the most popular speakeasies of the 1920s and custom barrel-aged whiskeys.
However, the hottest thing about this illicit drinking den is the glamorous burlesque revue "Bourbon Burlesque." It has been choreographed by Madison, who formerly starred in the striptease spectacular "Peepshow" and is well known for her reality TV stint on "Girls Next Door" as one of Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner's girlfriends. The sensual production, which is being showcased on Fridays and Saturdays beginning at 10:30 p.m. (a cover charge of $20 will apply), features steamy striptease vignettes.
Also, in the wee hours on Saturday nights, you can get your groove on during a bass-fueled dance party dubbed "After." It runs from 3 a.m. until about 8 a.m.
