B.B. King's Blues Club Review
Odds are when you come to Vegas you're only thinking about one color: green.
Sure, everyone has thoughts of hitting a huge jackpot or channeling their inner Phil Ivey, but before you know it you're singing the blues because you just wasted two month's salary at the craps tables.
But the blues don't have to be so glum if you happen to stumble into B.B. King's Blues Club at the Mirage. With live music nightly and Southern comfort food, you'll forget about your troubles by the first bite of deep-fried catfish.
With a name like B.B. King strapped onto a blues club it had better be top notch. The King of Blues himself has long been the top dog in the industry, but he hasn't forgotten his roots. The club pays homage to those roots with old photos of Riley B. King (his real name) as a youth along with the forefathers of blues music like Otis Redding and Ray Charles.
Aside from the homage to the all-time greats, B.B. King's looks like a place where blues should be played. Pretty much every seat in the house has a view of the stage (although you may have to alienate the people you're sitting with when you turn your chair around). There are three bars in the main restaurant area and another one located by the main entrance.
The lighting is purposely kept low with red and blue accents throughout. And there could be no better material to put around the stage than brick.
Live music is played nightly with special guest performers, the occasional appearance by the man himself and a house band called the Memphis All-Stars that will be sure to do a few covers to pull you out of that chair and onto the small dance floor in front of the stage.
The crowd that comes here is pretty eclectic from the 40-somethings who are here to party the night away to the club goers who heard the Michael Jackson cover song blasting into the hallway at the Mirage while looking for a place to eat. You'll even see families enjoying the sounds of the blues and a few ribs.
Yeah, it's green that we're all looking for in Vegas but when you come up empty on the tables, the blues have never sounded better.
