Cherry Nightclub: Summer Affair Review

There's a lot to be said for a club that lives up to its name.

Now, we're not naming names, but there are some clubs in town where the behavior is pretty much the exact opposite of the word emblazoned on the cocktail napkins.

Before anyone goes rushing for a dictionary, let us explain. Cherry lives up to its name because, well, its atmosphere, all deep reds and shine, is vaguely reminiscent of a cherry.

Cherry was a popular Red Rock nightspot in the mid 2000s until it closed in 2010. Now it is re-opening on Fridays and Saturdays for a six-month summer run.

Senior Vice President of Station Casinos LLC and General Manager of Red Rock Resort Mark Dunkeson said the decision to re-open Cherry as a seasonal nightclub came as a result of feedback from local residents.

"We want Red Rock Resort to be the obvious choice for weekend and late-night entertainment this summer," said Dunkeson.

The club's entrance hall is actually a red, mirrored tunnel, that if you squint hard enough could almost be the stem to the cherry of the club's round, open interior.

After the hall, the entrance is flanked by two large VIP rooms, the first of many table options in (and outside of) the club.

Just inside, a circular bar is surrounded by more table seating and in the back of the bar, a wood-paneled dance floor calls for you to show off just what you can do in those three-inch heels. Try not to get too distracted by the disco balls, there's one huge one and three smaller ones, each sending light pin-balling around the room.

Television screens scattered throughout the club flicker images while red, zebra-striped carpeting blankets some of the VIP areas. Flames, red zoo animals, red this, red that, sensing a theme here? We told you.

At 8,500 square feet, the club is the perfect size, not so big that you'll lose your friend, not so small that you'll be sitting on top of them.

And should that friend tell you to scram while he puts the moves on one of the club's attractive patrons, we've got the perfect place for you to take off to – just outside the club's doors, on the patio.

The patio is not such a new concept in Sin City nightlife and if you're not going to boast the Strip view that many of the clubs on Las Vegas Boulevard do, you better bring something just as good to the table. And oh, how Cherry does. The patio, which overlooks the resort's pool, as well as offering a pool of its own, is one of the coolest – no pun intended – spots to spend a hot Vegas night.

With snaking, cushy couches, as well as daybeds and cabanas, the patio is nothing short of extravagant. There's a separate bar outside and the pool is sizable, almost lap-length.

The club's speaker and lighting system is so massive and state-of-the-art that even outside, it's hard not to feel it thumping in your chest.

If you're staying hydrated, like you should in Las Vegas' scorching summer heat or during a massive dance-off, you'll eventually need to use the bathroom. Normally we wouldn't bring this up because, hey, who wants to talk about bathrooms? But Cherry's are unique. One-sided mirrors in the stalls play some fun tricks with your mind, while over in the men's room, urinals are shaped like open mouths.

There are a few more tricks up Cherry's sleeve, but if we told you everything, that wouldn't give you any reason to pop your…well, you wouldn't have any reason to see it yourself.
