More: Vegas video arcades and midways

The arcades in Vegas run the gamut and provide something to meet the needs of just about anyone. All hotels FORBID leaving children unattended in an arcade or midway.

Bally's:
Description: Located near the end of Bally's Avenue Shoppes and close to the pool entrance is a small arcade with about 20 games.

Review:Go downstairs (Bally's has a downstairs?), through the long shopping mall, and past the slot machine graveyard, you'll find a DDR and Beach Head 2002, a game in which you pull a helmet down over your head and play on the screens inside. From the outside, you're a dork, spinning in place and shrieking. From the inside, you're collecting lice from the previous player.

Bellagio:
Description: Located near the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art and the hotel's swimming pool, this arcade features DDR, Time Crisis, Arctic Thunder, an ATV simulator game, an air hockey table and a variety of racing and fighting video games.

Boulder Station:
Description: The video arcade at Boulder Station is located adjacent to the movie theater and features the latest in DDR, racing, fighting and simulator games.

Circus Circus:
Description: The "World's Largest Permanent Circus" offers a number of skill and redemption games on its second-floor midway. An electronic arcade also offers 200 current and classic titles. One of the biggest and best.

Review:With midway games on half the floor, the size is deceptive. But it's one of the few spots in town with Rolling Extreme, a street luge game. I also learn that I have yet to conquer my fear of clowns.

Fiesta:
Description: Two arcades are featured at the Fiesta. The larger arcade is across the way from Gardunos Mexican restaurant and exhibits a well-stocked arcade room. The other is conveniently located off to the side of the food court and offers about 15 video games.

Flamingo:
Review: Not so much an arcade as a hallway. Actually, make that half a hallway, between Tropical Breeze and the parking garage. It's my first encounter with the strangely disturbing Pixy Prize game. The two bizarre characters that sit in the game's window will haunt me.

Green Valley Ranch:
Description: Located next to the movie theater, this arcade features more than 60 video games, including DDR and air hockey tables.

Hooters:
Description: This small arcade features racing and fighting video games. Guests can find it in the back of the hotel by the swimming pool.

Imperial Palace:
Description: The arcade, located by Betty's Diner, features video and virtual reality games.

Review:In the back, down a hall and past some lockers. Eleven machines total: 13 if you count the change machines. A giant gear assembly on the ceiling invokes that crucial Emile Zola-Germinal feel necessary for all good arcades.

MGM Grand:
Description: The MGM Grand does nothing small scale, including its arcade, which features skill, redemption, video and virtual reality games.

Review:In case you've never examined every inch of this 171,500-square-foot casino, the video arcade is in the back and downstairs. I found a MoCap Boxing game, but I was too tired from searching to play it.

New York-New York:
Description: A midway that consistently wins "best arcade" awards, the Coney Island Emporium's 32,000 square feet include midway-style games, laser tag, an eight-player Daytona racing simulator, and over 200 coin-operated games. The Roller Coaster at New York-New York is also located in this area.

Review:A massive, sprawling arcade, even without the midway and roller coaster. There's a little bit of everything: Final Furlong, DDR, MoCap Boxing and more.

Orleans:
Description: The Timeout Arcade, adjacent to the Orleans 18 movie theaters, features video and interactive games.

Rio:
Description: Located near the Voodoo Lounge in the Masquerade Village, the Fun 'n Games arcade features video, virtual reality and redemption games such as skeeball and basketball.

Riviera:
Description: The arcade, adjacent to the food court, offers a number of video and a few redemption games.

Review:Behind the escalator is a surprising number of games, including pinball machines for guys even older than me.

Santa Fe Station:
Description: Located in the Bowling Center area is a well-stocked arcade room featuring video games, virtual reality games, some skill games and a air hockey table.

South Point:
Description:The Timeout Arcade is located within the 64-lane bowling center and features 72 arcade games including In the Groove 2, Mario Kart and the anniversary edition of Street Fighter.

Stratosphere:
Review: Located upstairs, but thankfully not all the way upstairs. There are a number of regular games but not a lot to choose from in the immersive genre. A DDR Extreme and a Dirt Dash, an off-road rally racer designed to prepare you for the Spaghetti Bowl, round out the small collection.

Sunset Station:
Description:
Located next to the movie theater by the food court, this arcade features popular racing video games like "Fast and the Furious" and "Initial D" as well as a variety of fighting, simulation and redemption games. DDR and an air hockey table and are also available.

Texas Station:
Description: Texas Station offers two arcades. The larger of the two is adjacent to the 18-screen Regal Cinemas and offers traditional video games along with advanced graphic multi-user consoles. The Bowling Center houses the second arcade area and offers video games only.

Treasure Island:
Description: This video arcade has been reduced in size due to the opening of the Kahunaville restaurant, but it continues to offer video games.

Review:Not just DDR, not DDR USA, but DDR Extreme!

Tropicana:
Description: The Tropicana arcade is conveniently located off of the pool (and below the convention/meeting rooms) so that parents can lounge in a nearby jacuzzi while kids enjoy one of the 30-plus video games.

Review:The trip to the arcade beats the games inside. Go through the casino, watch your head as you pass the cigar store, enter the outside world, follow the outdoor pool, dodge the indoor pool and spa's humidity, and you're home free. Your reward: it's a video game arcade and a business center!
