Wolf Creek Golf Club Review
Voted "America's Best New Course" by Golf Digest when it opened in 2000 and ranked 22nd in the digest's 2003-04 "America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses," Wolf Creek Golf Club can compete with any course anywhere for beauty and challenge.
For beauty, there are jaw-dropping views from nearly everywhere, as Wolf Creek meanders down and through and up and over the rugged gold and red rock canyons, a staple of Mesquite golf.
A round at Wolf Creek becomes unforgettable from the start. The 579-yard, par 5 gives players a great look at things to come. The elevated tee shot plays down to a wide fairway some 50 feet below, and the second and third shots play uphill to the three-tiered green framed by bunkers and water on the right that starts about 150 yards out. Eleven bunkers guard the hole, and here and throughout the round, positioning is critical as the fairway rolls. Elevation changes are the norm. On the No. 2 tee box, 90 granite steps lead up and up to the driving area, which is located some 11 stories high. On the third hole, it's the green that is elevated, and just about invisible from the tee.
The best view may be from the fifth tee box, another located high above the course. From here it's possible to see many other holes and most of the sprawling township of Mesquite itself. Meanwhile, the par-5 fifth hole also is one of Wolf Creek's best. The fairway lies some 100 feet below the tee, and a stream meanders across it, daring players to cut the corner to get home in two.
The course also offers plenty of variety. The par-4 13th hole plays just 341 yards, but it's wedged between canyons to punish those swinging wild with the driver. The 18th is an uphill par 4 that plays to a green between waterfalls. Be sure to take a moment after playing the hole to look back and enjoy the view. It's one of many that will stay with you long after the round.
For pre- and post-round pleasure, a spacious clubhouse offers a fully stocked golf shop, gourmet dining at the Terrace Restaurant and a relaxing atmosphere.
