Shadow Creek Review

From the first moment players step out of the limo and onto the hallowed grounds of Shadow Creek, they know they are about to experience something special in the golf world. They just don't realize how special.

Shadow Creek is the Tom Fazio masterpiece located in North Las Vegas. Its very mention conjures up visions of golf perfection: perfect practice area, perfect tee boxes, perfect fairways and perfect greens. It's all that . . . and more. Play one round here and you'll be comparing all future rounds with this spectacular golf course.

The 7,239-yard layout, which opened in 1989, is 18 of the finest golf holes man has ever encountered. Every hole is a picture postcard unto itself with its breathtaking elegance.

While just about every golf hole stands out when players arrive at the tee, the finishing two holes are jaw-dropping in their beauty and challenge.

The par-3 17th is a short hole, playing from 129 to 164 yards. But what it lacks in distance it more than makes up for in challenge. The green is almost lost in the scenic splendor of white-sand bunkers, beautiful foliage, a water fall that flows into a crystal-blue lake and a mountain backdrop. All four par 3s on the course play to elevated greens or from elevated tee boxes, adding to the test.

The finishing hole, and the end to your trip around Fazio's paradise, is a par-5 that measures 527 yards. It's not just any par-5. This picturesque hole features three lakes, and they come into play early and often. The last lake fronts a narrow green that is surrounded by lush foliage and a couple of bunkers, adding to the drama.

A trip around Shadow Creek isn't just a round of golf. It's a little trip around heaven.
