The Rampart Casino Race and Sports Book at the J.W. Marriott Las Vegas Review
While probably not the easiest way to make a living, sports and race betting has provided more then a few folks with a nice source of income, so it's only fitting that the The Rampart Casino Race and Sports Book at the J.W. Marriott Las Vegas looks a little like a very classy office.
Decked out in deep, dark-colored woods and more than a few comfy desk chairs, the book is a larger version of what you might imagine the workspace of a Fortune 500 company executive to look like, with a dozen extra televisions thrown in for good measure.
A handful of bigger-screen TVs broadcast some of the main action, but if your team doesn't warrant those, don't worry - the cozy nature of the book makes just about every screen viewable from most of the seats. Plus, electronic standing screens make it easy to pick out any other info you might need.
Unlike other books that seem to bleed right to the edge of the casino floor, the Rampart's book is set in an almost entirely separate area, so cheering on your picks isn't likely to interfere with anyone's video poker playing (and vice versa).
Although it's not one of the most massive books around, the Rampart Casino book offers a more intimate betting experience -- the counter is never far from anywhere in the room, aiding any bets brought on by a last minute burst of inspiration. Plus, the smaller the book, the easier to make friends, and it might be a good idea to make nice with the on-duty supervisor -- he's the one that hands out the drink tickets.
