Q and A with Jorge

Why/when did you move here?
When I was in middle school, because my family moved here.

When did you start at VEGAS.com, and what does your job entail?
I started here in May 2010 as a content developer, particularly handling our social media. It's pretty rough work: I get to be in the know about cool Vegas happenings, I get to write about all the fun things that are going on or take cool photos for our websites and make sure that everyone is kept up to date on all the awesome stuff that goes on in Vegas.

What is your favorite thing about working at VEGAS.com?
Meeting Vegas performers, getting sneak peeks at Vegas shows, visiting all sorts of cool attractions... and then getting to share it with our fans. And of course, giving out swag bags on our Twitter page! It's all good.

What are your hobbies?
I love to read, but I also watch at least a few movies each week. When the weather is nice (which is a lot of the time) I love to swim. I also collect old and new comic books!

Give us a random fact about yourself
I lived in Boulder City, Nev., the town Hoover Dam is in, for about 10 years. The next time I hear a pun with the word "dam" in it will be way too soon.

Give us your top insider tips about Vegas

  • Check out Downtown - you can get some cheaper drink and food specials and it has its own kind of old-school Vegas charm. Also, if you head down Fremont East, you'll find some very cool bars!

  • Explore the outlying areas a little bit: Red Rock, Lake Las Vegas and Lake Mead all have some beautiful sights to take in and fun activities from hiking to water-skiing.
  • It's a bad idea to try to drive around on the Strip, especially on a weekend: plan out your visit so you can get from one point to another on foot and if anything, just take a cab or The Deuce bus to get back to your hotel.
