VEGAS.com partners with Mexico.com

Las Vegas Review Journal
Mar. 31, 2008

by Benjamin Spillman

Owners of the tourism Web site Vegas.com are taking their act international.

The Las Vegas-based company behind the site is scheduled to announce a partnership today with the owners of Mexico.com, a Web site aimed at attracting tourism to Mexico.

The deal calls for a revamp of Mexico.com that is scheduled to go live today. The revised site will sell air-hotel packages, cruises, tours and travel advice.

The services available on Mexico.com are similar to what Vegas.com offers for Las Vegas visitors.

"We're going to bring the expertise, technology and attention to the customer that we've mastered in Vegas to Mexico.com," Vegas.com President Howard Lefkowitz said in a statement.

The deal means Mexico.com will be run from Las Vegas by Vegas.com employees while operatives in Mexico provide content.

Vegas.com already has bilingual staff members who work on the Spanish-language version of the Las Vegas site who will contribute to the Mexico site.

Vegas.com spokeswoman Pamela Johnston said the small staff at Mexico.com will remain employed.

"They are going to be helping out with the content; not all of their roles are defined," Johnston said.

She said Mexico.com currently employs about six people and that the partnership means Vegas.com will add jobs in business development and content, but she didn't say how many. Vegas.com has about 500 employees.

The Phoenix-based airline US Airways will also participate in the venture between the two Web sites.

The airline brings more passengers to and from Las Vegas than any airline besides Southwest and is among the top carriers of passengers from the United States to Mexico.

Lately, however, US Airways has been cutting back on nighttime service to Las Vegas, citing high fuel costs and lower fares for nighttime flights.
